Many people think that it is a loss of time. Others think it's necessary but breeze through it as an activity, and once done, it's done. Very few know how to successfully plan for achieving business excellence: reputation, healthy growth, profitability, and superior results year after year.
The truth of the matter is, if you fail to plan when you are in business or when managing an important project, then plan to fail. It's as basic as that.

To us, Strategic Planning is the foundation of any change initiative, business start-up, business growth, or just any management system implementation, no matter how small or big the organization or whether it's a not-for-profit or for-profit entity.
The important term is Strategic, and most people use it without knowing what that really means. Strategic is the whole: it's the ability to look out into the future (vision), scanning the environment and assessing the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities outside the business and the ones that lie within the organization's structure, the goal, the mission and the culture of the organization. Now that's a huge list! But, unless an entrepreneur, business manager, CEO or Director of an organization takes all the parts of this living organization into perspective, he or she is not an active strategic character in any planning endeavor.
